Dillon Reeves, a 13-year-old student from Michigan, USA, saved 60 of his classmates when he managed to stop a school bus in time after the bus driver lost consciousness. He also asked other students to contact emergency services, BBC reported.
The incident took place on April 26 in Warren Township, Macomb County. The bus driver was taking students home from Carter Middle School when she suddenly began experiencing dizziness. She decided to notify her base of her worsening condition and stop the bus, but before she did, she lost consciousness and the vehicle began traveling in the oncoming lane.
Dillon Reeves quickly assessed the situation and ran up to the driver, applied the brakes, and asked other students to contact emergency services. As a result, the bus was stopped without consequence and no one was injured.
Warren Township Police and the Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene and administered first aid to the driver. So far, the cause of her loss of consciousness has not been determined and she has not had any previous incidents like this while driving. All students were transferred to another bus to take them home.
When police informed Dillon’s parents of the incident, the boy’s father, Steve Reeves, first asked: “What did he do?” but heard back, “No, your son is a hero.”
The school principal also expressed his pride and appreciation for the actions of the boy who was able to prevent a possible bus accident.
