Originally a Baroque chateau, Hořín Castle now features a Rococo style and was constructed at the end of the 17th century at the request of Count Jakob von Czernin.
Several agricultural buildings were later added to the chateau, enclosing the courtyard and creating an artistically cohesive architectural ensemble.
At the end of the 18th century, Hořín became the property of the Lobkowicz family, who have owned it ever since. The chateau is surrounded by a 10-hectare park.
Part of the estate includes a 1.4-hectare farm. Hořín Chateau is located in the village of the same name, near the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers, 2 km from Mělník and about 40 km from Prague.
In 1969, Count Heřman Jacob Czernin had a Baroque hunting lodge built according to the design of Giovanni Battista Alliprandi, adorned with paintings by F.M. Schiffern and his brother Antonín. Finding it too small, the count had it rebuilt between 1713 and 1720 into a Baroque chateau designed by F.M. Kaňka. The castle underwent several expansions and renovations over time.
Two pavilions were added, connected to the main building by diagonal corridors. One pavilion was for guest accommodations, while the other was converted into a castle chapel. Agricultural buildings serving as stables were also constructed, maintaining the artistic unity of the estate.
The Rococo interiors, known as the “stone rooms” from 1760-1763, have been partially preserved on the first floor. The central building has three floors above ground and a basement, totaling 10,000 square meters.
The first floor, with 2,300 square meters, can be used for a restaurant, private rooms, and accommodations. The beautifully preserved chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is suitable for religious ceremonies or as a concert hall. The second floor offers 2,200 square meters, ideal for hotel rooms and private quarters.
The third floor, with an area of 1,200 square meters, is suited for luxurious rooms or suites. The top floor, boasting the best views, spans 750 square meters. The spacious cellar, offering 1,700 square meters, is ideal for wellness areas or wine cellars.
Hořín Chateau is located near the mouth of the Vltava and Elbe rivers, about 2 kilometers from Mělník in Central Bohemia. The nearby nature reserve, Kokořínsko, enhances its appeal. The chateau provides a unique view of Mělník Chateau, also owned by the Lobkowicz family, and Říp Mountain. Václav Havel Airport in Prague is 40 kilometers away.
Given its favorable location near Prague, the chateau is ideal for developing an extensive hotel with a luxurious restaurant, preserving its late Baroque and early Rococo elements to attract guests with its historical charm.
The spacious cellars can be transformed into unique wellness areas.
The castle park’s orangery and other buildings can be converted into stables with an indoor riding arena. There is ample space for parking.
