Van life isn’t just for large vehicles like vans and buses. In the world of bike-packing, a charming gray area exists where ingenious RVs thrive. One standout example is the Lambretta Tuk Tuk Camper. It is a vintage Lambretta three-wheel scooter transformed into a stunning camper.
Surprisingly, Tuk Tuk campers, bike trailers, and other small-engine builds are gaining popularity. These unconventional vehicles have proven their capability as RVs. Recently, George Clarke from Channel 4 visited David Motley, a designer of beautiful and compact campers.
David and his wife run Hide and Stitch, a custom leather furniture business. They invested 6 months and £12,000 into transforming a 1960 Lambretta Li 175 Series 2 scooter and a 1969 Lambretta box. The rusty parts were stripped down before the build could begin.
By welding the scooter and box together and removing the dividing wall, David created extra interior space. The transformed interior is very unique and beautiful. It features a cozy lounge area with a snug bed, storage cupboards, cup holders, curtains, and leather side panels. The two-person bench at the front also serves as a bed extension.
Underneath the bed, a kitchen drawer with a tiny sink and one-burner gas stove was ingeniously integrated. Everything you need for comfortable life! Custom glass containers washing liquid, sugar, coffee, and etc…
The Lambretta model used in this camper has a single-cylinder, two-stroke air-cooled engine with 7 HP and a top speed of 36 mph (58 kph) when fully loaded.
The flatbed version has a maximum payload of 882 pounds (400 kg). The Guinness Book is considering whether this camper qualifies as the world’s smallest.
David plans to embark on camping adventures with his boys in this fantastic creation. His passion and dedication have resulted in a camper that captures attention and embodies the spirit of van life in a uniquely compact form.
