Today, the profession of a shepherd evokes, let’s say, some “disgust.” After all, everyone imagines them as dirty, unkempt drunkards. However, this is far from the truth, and such opinions largely stem from ignorance of the history of this profession.
Shepherds often chased wild animals away from their flocks. They took turns tending to the common herd, as it was convenient.
For your information, being a shepherd was an honorable profession in Biblical times, even in Israel. Children of noble people and kings tended sheep: Jacob, David, Moses, Amos, and even daughters were shepherds.
Nowadays, there are very few shepherds left in villages, perhaps only where flocks are still gathered, but mostly shepherds can be found on large farms and in cowsheds.
Look at that little lamb; it managed to escape from the flock. It doesn’t suspect the danger awaiting it in the wild. After all, how many of its companions have already been dragged away into the woods by wolves.
It’s good that the shepherd found this stray and will soon lead it back to the pen. Can you find the shepherd in the picture?
