It’s no secret to anyone that during the times of serfdom in our country, serfs were treated, so to speak, “not very well.” However, as historical sources claim, the attitude towards servants and peasants depended largely on the master’s household, his family traditions, values, and upbringing.
The stereotype of a master (barin, landowner) making advances towards his servant girl is quite common, perpetuated by cinema and literature. In reality, such occurrences were not frequent.
Nevertheless, such cases did happen, and today’s picture-visual puzzle is an example of that. Look at the task, namely the picture. In it, a young master wants to ask something, and the dialogue between these people goes like this:
– Don’t fuss, master, the husband is coming!
– Well, of course! Where is he then?
So, where is the husband of this poor peasant woman in the picture? (The correct answer will be published at the very end of the article).
If you haven’t found the husband of this lady yet, we suggest looking at the original version of this puzzle. It was published in “Novaya Gazeta” in 1900 in exactly this form.
We hope you’ve managed to figure it out and found the correct answer. If not, we’ll definitely show it to you.
If you rotate the picture by 90 degrees, you can see the silhouette of the peasant woman’s husband in the grass.
