In 2015, a touching story took place on the beach in the town of Cricket, which is located in the British Isles. Rich Wilcock, an ordinary fisherman, was walking along the picturesque coastline with his faithful four-legged friend – a springer spaniel dog named Leia.
Rich was quietly fishing and taking pictures of the beautiful scenery on his phone. He was about to put down his fishing rods, but suddenly his pet, who was freely exploring the shore, became worried. Leia started barking and darting along the water’s edge. She ran up to her master and as if pushing him towards the bay, calling him there.
Rich realized that Leia saw something, so, without turning off the phone, followed her. And on the shore, right on the rocks, Wilcock found a living creature. At first he thought he saw a baby shark. But on closer inspection, the fisherman realized he’d found a baby dolphin.
The baby dolphin was very weak and almost immobile, with trauma marks on its head. Rich tried to call the rescue service, but was unable to do so due to the lack of communication in such a remote area. Then the man decided to act on his own. He moved the dolphin to the water so that it swam further away from the rocky shore. But the baby at first did not understand what was wanted from him, and also could not swim because of his weakened condition. Nevertheless, Rich managed to send the cub back to its home environment, where it would be discovered by its relatives and probably helped to recover from its injuries.
After returning home, Rich reported the incident to the local emergency service, to which the staff promised to investigate the area of the waters to help other animals that may also have come ashore due to strong waves.
Experts later found out that it’s not really a dolphin in the video. It is a harbor porpoise calf, which belongs to the toothed whale group. But it doesn’t matter what the discovered living creature is. The main thing is that Leia and Rich helped him to return to his native element and, probably, to save himself.
