There are no standard projects for a true architect. Every piece of art is distinct in some way. This is a result of the unusual tasks that members of this profession frequently have to complete.
Occasionally, trying to find a compromise results in the production of strange things. A striking illustration is a very little suburban Chicago home. A little, triangular plot of land, measuring about 0.04 hectares, remained after an American residential area was developed.
It took a long time for the local government to sell it, and in the end, the price had to be lowered to the absolute lowest.
Eventually, the land was bought by Greg Weisman, an employee of a nearby design business.
Even with the challenging site, Greg ventured to construct a house. The property was not only shaped in an odd and unusable way, but it also had to occupy less than 40% of the land according to municipal regulations.
Using a creative approach, the architect created a two-story home with a basement that has an elongated triangle shape with a cut corner. It is barely 0.9 meters long, the narrowest wall. The one across from it is over 7.6 meters long.
Right on the street is the quirky cottage. Many times, passing motorists pull over to have a closer look. A few even venture inside. The house appears to have very little space inside, not even for a small table and chairs, much less a proper bed, when viewed from the narrow side.
Actually, because of careful planning, the cottage is incredibly roomy and cozy. The exterior of the house is covered in wooden paneling. A tall entrance with an A-shaped canopy and wave-patterned glass serves as the major focal point.
The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all located on the same level in the house’s central room. The ceiling lights are hung in a line, and every piece of furniture is set on the walls. By doing this, the owner highlighted the house’s distinctive features and made it easy to go from one useful area to another.
The cottage features two roomy bedrooms. Each has a tiny bathroom adjacent to it, and there is also a second bathroom planned in the house’s narrow section next to the living room.
