We are thrilled to bring you another update on the adorable western lowland gorilla, Uzumma, and her newborn baby, who entered the world just over three weeks ago on March 4. The past week has been filled with delightful milestones for our gorilla family, both big and small.
Witnessing Kwame gently touching his son’s tiny foot for the first time brought us immense joy, reminding us that even the smallest gestures can be heartwarming. Uzumma is embracing motherhood with remarkable skill and ease, leaving us in awe of her nurturing instincts.
Our dedicated gorilla keeper, Judy Sievert, has observed that Uzumma is one of the most caring and attentive gorilla mothers ever seen at Woodland Park Zoo. This is hardly surprising, considering her own mother, Amanda, was an exceptional caregiver to her.
Uzumma’s remarkable motherly behavior not only benefits her baby but also sets a wonderful example for other females in the group who may become mothers in the future.
