In 2005, conjoined twins Regina and Renata were born to Sonia and Federico, a Mexican couple. Their birth garnered significant attention, as an ultrasound had already revealed that the girls would be born joined together.
The twins were delivered in the United States, as their parents were unable to return to Mexico before their birth. Although the twins shared some organs, doctors determined that separation was possible, though it would be challenging.
After ten months of preparation, an 80-member medical team in Los Angeles successfully carried out the separation surgery, which lasted 22 hours.Following the operation, the twins were finally able to sleep in their own beds.
The news of their separation brought worldwide attention to the Mexican family. Despite their newfound fame, the twins’ parents opted for a modest life and refrained from participating in television programs. Now 18 years old, the twins are attending university.
A recent photo with their mother Sonia shows them looking well. However, Renata struggles with walking due to a back problem that limits her mobility. Fortunately, she is under medical supervision, and doctors are confident she will make a full recovery.
